Wilcox Mofflin Building

Located in the revitalised inner Sydney suburb of Ultimo, this existing brick warehouse significant heritage value as one of the few remaining examples of the original commercial, industrial structures that used to dominate the area. The warehouse has recently been developed as a residential apartment block, and this project involves alterations to the interior of one of the two-storey apartments recently purchased by my clients. The clients, Patrick & Nina Reid, are proposing to move in with an eclectic collection of existing artwork and furniture that mostly contemporary, rustic, and industrial , that needs to be carefully incorporated into the new space so it can look functional and appropriate.

The concept for this apartment is the introduction of bold and colourful materials and painted feature walls, the selection of colours such as blue, yellow, orange, and turquoise combined with a strong industrial theme that reflects the existing timber and steel internal structure of the building, and works seemlessly with the exposed services throughout. The bold painted walls project a cheeky and playful environment, and they contrast smoothly with the rustic wooden ceiling structure, polished concrete floor, and exposed brickwork walls for the industrial aspect of the space. The open space plans combined with the big amount of existing windows, has created a comfortable natural lights combined with contemporary warm artificial lightings.
