Haven Shelter Pod

Located in Bradfield Park under the Harbour Bridge Sydney, these small shelter pods for the homeless are a welcome sight for the disadvantaged in the area. The design challenge required the creation of an effective and comfortable, space-saving shelter which can become temporary housing for homeless people around the area. The essential requirements were a bathroom, and living and sleeping areas. The concept behind this project was a simple, rectangular form that can be divided in a variety of ways to create the required spaces. The sleeping area that can fit 4 people using cleverly placed joinery, and a cantilevered table sits neatly under the window in the shared kitchen. The overall theme of the pods will be a soothing and comfortable space, and that is why most of the materials are wooden that are dirt free and easy to clean. Most of the pod is built of cost effective timber which provides the inhabitants with a sense of security and warmth. The fire retardant timber is also easy to clean, aesthetically pleasing and durable.
